The strength of the Hilux lies in the vast volume of data Toyota has amassed in years of building reliable and rugged pickups. All models feature a laser-welded high-tensile steel body and chassis that has been subjected to exhaustive CAE simulation resulting in light weight with excellent torsional rigidity for precise handling. Hilux range is available in 2WD/4WD single and double cabins and gasoline and diesel engines.

Hilux Global Performance
The two-speed part-time Hilux transmission lets drivers choose the most effective method of power distribution. High-range 4-wheel drive (H4) for slippery surfaces and off-road driving, low-range 4-wheel drive (L4) for greater traction through mud or on road inclines and high-range rear-wheel drive (H2) for paved roads.

A large-capacity fuel tank gives a reassuring range and the high-positioned air intake helps prevent water entering when driving on flooded roads.
Double Wishbone independent front suspension ensures precise handling and superior ride comfort. 4X4 models incorporate an upper torsion bar for superb driveability on rough surfaces. At the rear, the leaf spring suspension provides the load-bearing capability essential in a pickup.

 HILUX SAFETY
Toyota philosophy towards safety is mirrored in the Hilux.

The safety of any vehicle depends on both active and passive safety features. Braking and handling performance should play an active role in assisting the driver to avoid unexpected hazards. However if an accident occurs, Toyota's passive safety priorities are two-fold - occupant protection and occupant rescue.

The rigid chassis and Toyota's renowned double wishbone front suspension give the Hilux outstanding agility to assist the driver in evasive manoeuvres, in the event of unforseen dangers. Front disc brakes on all models provide powerful braking ability while the all-round visibility provides the driver with an excellent field of view.

The Hilux features computer-developed front and rear crumple zones to aid in absorbing and dissipating the energy of an impact. The high-integrity cabin helps to protect the occupants and ensure the doors function normally after a collision to facilitate escape or rescue efforts. Extensive actual crash testing during development proved the real-world effectiveness of the Toyota Hilux design.

Safety features within the cabin include front and rear 3-point ELR seatbelts, headrests, and an energy-absorbing (EA) steering column that contributes to driver protection in a frontal collision. Side impact door beams are also installed.

The Hilux body was developed on the basis of our own safety standards that exceed those of most countries around the world. It offers the highest level of safety in its class. The impact-absorbing body structure and high-integrity cabin help to protect occupants by minimizing deformation to the passenger compartment.

High-performance front disc brakes are standard equipment on all models.

Toyota's brake system dual brake circuit ensures effective braking even in the unlikely event of a malfunction.

The brake booster reduces the amount of pedal pressure necessary for efficient braking.

All models are equipped with 3-point ELR seatbelts for both front and rear seats (2-point seatbelt for centre seats). Headrests are positioned on all outer seats.

Toyota's EA steering column helps absorb the energy of a frontal impact, thereby reducing the possibility of driver injury.

The rear doors on all Double Cab models cannot be opened from inside the cabin.

All-round visibility is essential for safe driving and also lessens driver fatigue on long journeys.

Powerful Headlamps:
All Hilux models are fitted with halogen headlamps that provide excellent visibility for night driving.
