Rav4 Global Performance

Active Torque Control 4WD

On 4WD models, Active Torque Control 4WD optimally controls the distribution of torque to the front and rear wheels. In order to stabilise standing starts, torque is increased to the rear wheels. While under way, torque distribution to the rear wheels is eliminated for front-wheel drive to reduce fuel consumption. Activating 4W F LOCK mode distributes drive torque to the rear wheels at the maximum fixed level.

Engine

The 24-litre 2AZ-FE gasoline engine delivers smooth acceleration, remarkable fuel efficiency and quiet operation.

Suspensions

Newly developed MacPherson struts up front and double wishbones in the rear ensure on-road ride comfort and off-road driving stability.

Transmissions

Advanced fuel-efficiency transmissions include a smooth-shifting 5-speed manual transaxle and 4 Super ECT (4-speed Super-intelligent Electronically Controlled Transaxle).

Ease of Handling

Electric Power Steering smooth assists the driver according to vehicle speed. Redisigned rack-and-pinion steering gear enhances steering 'feel'.

Body Structure
